A Banner Week

Friday, April 13th, 2007 by Rex Simmons

It was around this time last year that I was in the process of setting up my little online shrine to the Kwaj days, and reconnecting with a number of classmates along the way. After an initial round of relocating long-lost Kwaj friends, the activity dropped off and no one else bobbed to the surface. A few weeks ago I got a note from Mike Wilson, who is a year older than me and whose tour only overlapped mine by a year. I didn’t really know Mike on Kwaj, but he lived 2 houses down from me on Ocean Road, and it was good to hear from him now.

Then, during this week following Easter, no less than three more lost classmates popped up on the radar. Jeanne Baysinger Wallace found the web pages over the weekend and sent some email my way, followed one day later by Janet Daglian Herringto, who had received some email from me but was too busy to reply. That was exciting enough, but then Wednesday afternoon I got a note from Carolyn Eck Russell who, like Jeanne, found the website while poking around looking for Kwaj stuff online. I couldn’t ask for a better week.

The other good news is that both Jeanne and Carolyn claim to have some Kwaj photos they can contribute to the gallery, especially Carolyn from her time on the yearbook staff. Jeanne has already contributed several shots she took of a Roi Rat T-shirt that classmates and teachers signed in 6th grade. Check it out and see if your name is on it. The website has plenty of space for more snapshots, so I’m encouraging Jeanne and Carolyn to share what they have when time permits, and that certainly goes for the rest of you. I should also have some additions soon, taken from my parents’ stash of Kwaj photos.
